*Dances and wildly flails limbs about in excitement à la Morrissey*
Tomorrow I’ll be moving to Boulogne-Billancourt (an area in the western suburbs of Paris), so I thought now would be the perfect time to start the blog that I’ve often thought about but never really had the chance to begin.
My name is Kate, I’m 24 and I love pretty much all things French. The language, the literature, the food, the list goes on…
I’ve been itching to get back to France ever since I finished my year abroad in 2016. I lived in a beautiful little town called Digne-les-Bains in Provence where I worked as an English language assistant in primary schools. Although it got off to a slightly rocky start, my time in Digne well and truly cemented my French obsession. Reluctantly, I came back to Sheffield from my carefree vie provençale to finish the final year of my French Studies degree, before staying on another year to do a Master’s in the same area. Since then I’ve felt lost about what to do next and quite down about how much my spoken French has deteriorated. Just when I was about to wing it and randomly move to Lyon without a job to go to, I got a job as an English language assistant again, this time in Boulogne-Billancourt. Whilst I work part-time and try to improve my French, I’ll also be studying for a diploma in translation which hopefully I’ll have passed in the next few months!
I’m not entirely sure where this blog will go (and I haven’t got a clue what I’m doing with WordPress-help me), but I have plenty of ideas floating around my head on things I’d like to write about to do with French culture, travel, language learning and more. I adore Paris; there are so many places I want to go back to and so many new places I’m keen to explore. If nothing else, I’m hoping to use this space just to record my second stay in France, as well as to look back on the time I spent living there before; creating a little Provence memoir if you like! And if no one but my best friends read it then hey, c’est pas grave.
